Welcome to Third Time Ice Cream!
Prepare for a reimagination of your favorite scoop shop. At Third Time Ice Cream, our flavors each tell a story. We want each bite to transport you to a new place where everything feels at once both unfamiliar and—somehow—like home.
But what’s the story behind the name Third Time Ice Cream?
Well, “third time, ice cream” is actually an old saying. When two friends meet by chance several times over the course of a day, in English, we might say, “we have to stop meeting like this,” with the implication being that the next meeting should be intentional.
In Germany, friends might say to each other, “das nächstes mal gibst du mir einen aus,” meaning, “next time, you have to buy me a beer.” Germans take this deadly seriously (okay, maybe not deadly seriously, but as seriously as someone might take “jinx you owe me a coke”) and must stop at a nearby bar and buy their friend a beer on their next chance encounter.
In Israel, German immigrants took this saying and added a little “land of milk and honey” magic. So when two Israeli friends twice run into each other over the course of a day, they will say to each other, “pah-ahm shleesheet, gleedah,” or “third time, ice cream.”
We hope that when you run into your friends, you’ll teach them this custom (it is a great opportunity to demand they buy you ice cream) and that you’ll remember to share a special treat with your friends at your next unexpected meeting.
